TESTIMONIAL BY MIRROR LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Thanks to the dedication and support of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Mirror Lake Elementary has been able to double its mentoring forces. Although the school has had a viable mentoring program for many years, this community-based group has enhanced and improved our efforts. Pastor Edwin Nicklas and his wife Jane Nicklas sought out and filled a community need by partnering with Mirror Lake Elementary which is a Plantation public school.

Our Savior Lutheran Church has provided more that twenty mentors who have been matched with Mirror Lake students of varying needs. Students selected for participation in the mentoring program need academic motivation, reading and math assistance, improved self-esteem and a loyal adult friend and these mentors fulfill each need. In addition, mentors assist in classrooms, help out in the front office and accompany our students on field trips.

Mirror Lake representatives told us that “Pastor Ed is known to all because he is such a valuable presence in the school at large. He volunteers in the cafeteria each week to meet and greet our students. His example of volunteerism is contagious and many of his church members have joined him in mentoring and serving the needs of students and staff at Mirror Lake Elementary."

We are so proud of all of you for your hard work and dedication!!
